Objective
Retinoblastoma is the most common intraocular malignant neoplasm in childhood. According to consequent treatment the current survival rate improved to 95 %. It is necessary to follow special aspects of diagnostic and therapy, especially differential diagnostic considerations. If not, further more affecting therapeutical strategies are unavoidable.
Methods
Retrospective, noncomparative case series of management and prognosis of patients with retinoblastoma.
Results
Corresponding to the manifestation of the retinoblastoma the enucleation, radiotherapy and chemotherapy was performed. Until today 8 patient survived, 2 patient died on intracranial infiltrations
Conclusions
The suspected diagnosis retinoblastoma exists until it is excluded in cases with leukocoria and intraocular opacity, especially in childhood and youth. If extraocular manifestation ist suspected or proven, consequent therapy without delay is necessary to avoid further tumor dissemination. |
