Abstract
P 173
Congenital preretinal membrane with chorioretinal anastomosis – a long-term course
Christian Ritter, Michael H. Foerster
Augenklinik, Campus Benjamin Franklin, Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Berlin
Objective
Preretinal membranes consist of vitreous remnants or arise from proliferating retinal glial cells passing to the retinal surface through defects of the internal limiting membrane. The process can be induced by a chorioretinal anastomosis.
Methods
We describe the long-term course of a 24-year-old patient who underwent ophthalmological examination at the age of 12 years because of visual deterioration in one eye. We found a preretinal membrane affecting the macula, originating from a chorioretinal anastomosis. She underwent membrane peeling within one year because of the visual deterioration.
Results
Preoperatively, the visual acuity had decreased from 1,0 to 0,16. After operation we saw a regeneration to 0,8. This value has been constant over the last 9 years achieving a long-time stability of vision and maintaining binocular vision. Incidently, we found a spontaneous obstruction of the anastomosis with disappearing secondary alterations.
Conclusions
The secondary alterations on the posterior pole, induced by chorioretinal anastomosis, could be eliminated by removing the preretinal membrane. |
