Abstract

P 183

Idiopathic chorioidal neovascularisation (CNV) by young women

Christian Girbardt, Claudia Jochmann, Peter Wiedemann
Augenklinik, Universitätsklinikum Leipzig, Leipzig

Objective
To present three cases of idiopathic choroidal neovascularization (CNV) in young women and possible therapy with intravitreally injected antiangiogenic substances.
Methods
The patients were 28, 35 and 43 years old respectively. Other causes of CNV could clinically be excluded. The therapy applied consisted of the intravitreal injection of ranibizumab or bevacizumab. One woman had already been pretreated with photodynamic therapy (PDT).
Results
The therapy was tolerated well. It resulted in at least a stabilisation of visual acuity. In one case a quick and pronounced rise of viusal acuity was recorded already after only one injection. One of the patients was breastfeeding, so that therapy necessitated ablactation.
Conclusions
Antiangiogenic substances are a relatively new approach in the therapy of idiopathic CNV. The application in young women requires consistent contraception because of lacking clinical experience during pregnancy. The partly excellent response to the therapy has to be distinguished from those cases of spontaneous restitution described in the literature.
