Objective
To document the pathologic structure of an optic disc pit with coexisting central serous retinal detachment using high resolution HRA 2 Spectral-OCT before and after vitrectomy with silicon-oil tamponade and endophotocoagulation.
Methods
The findings of the retina and the optic nerve head in a 25-year-old patient with a dysplastic optic disc and central serous retinal detachment were evaluated using high resolution HRA 2 Spectral-OCT (Heidelberg Engineering, Heidelberg, Germany) for image acquisition. Radial as well as single scans were performed. The software of the Heidelberg eye explorer (version 1.5.12.0) was used for documentation to show structural changes of the optic disc and the retina.
Results
In this case of optic disc pit, it was possible to detect a conncection between the optic disc pit and the subretinal space as well as between the intraretinal and subretinal space along with an incomplete macular foramen. The findings after vitrectomy with silicon-oil tamponade and endophotocoagulation were documented.
Conclusions
High resolution HRA 2 Spectral-OCT was able to visualize a connection between the optic disc pit and the subretinal space as well as an adherence of the posterior vitreous membrane. To our knowledge, there is no previous report about similar findings using this new device. There was a decrease of the subretinal and intraretinal fluid visible postoperatively. However, there was no entire closure of the connection canal between optic disc pit and subretinal space.
