Objective
Besides the proven indication for ranibizumab of exudative age related macular degeneration choroidal neovascularisations (CNVs) of different origin also profit from the treatment with ranibizumab. We report on our first experiences of CNVs secondary to angioid streaks, pathologic myopia and retinopathia centralis serosa.
Methods
We treated each one patient with CNV secondary to high myopia (patient 1), retinopathia centralis serosa (patient 2) and angioid streaks (patient 3) with ranibizumab intravitreal. Depending on the findings further injections were performed following the treatment recommendations of exudative age related macular degeneration.
Results
Patient 1 and 2 needed 3 injections, patient 3 recieved 6 injections to reach stable retinal findings without retinal bleeding or intraretinal fluid. We found an improvement of visual acuity from 0,25 to 0,8 (patient 1), 0,1 to 0,25 (patient 2) and 0,05 to 0,3 (patient 3). During the follow-up of 12 months no further injections were needed.
Conclusions
CNVs of different origin than exudative macular degeneration seem to profit from the therapy with ranibizumab quite a lot. Intravitreal ranibizumab and repetitive controls with therapy on demand seems to be a promising therapy concept in these cases. |
