Objective
Macular edema in radiation-induced retinopathy is a common complication in the treatment of choroidal melanoma. This study compares different treatment approaches with respect to the anatomical and functional results.
Methods
The study included all patients (n=19) in the period of 2005 to 2008 being treated for radiation induced macular edema in our department,. The therapeutical approach was either oral treatment with acetazolamid (n=10) or intravitreal injection of Bevacizumab (n=8), or triamcinolone (n=8), respectively. The mean follow up time was 2,5 years.
Results
No change in best-corrected visual acuity was documented after any of the three therapeutical approaches. However, bevacizumab and triamcinolone led to the reduction of macular edema by 60 µm and 170µm, respectively.
Conclusions
The intravitreal injection of Bebacizumab and triamcinolone, promoted in our study the reduction of central retinal thickness. Treatment with acetazolamid seams to have no effect whatsoever. |
