Abstract
FR.23.10
Yes, I can – retinal views of a slit-lamp
Marcus-Matthias Gellrich
Augenarztpraxis, Kellinghusen
Objective
How can a „house-ophthalmologist“ without access to the modern equipment for retinal imaging improve his documentation of retinal findings with a video slit lamp?
Methods
The slit lamp itself proposes in a talk with the user (M-M) different applications for retinal documentation. The didactic purpose is combined with an appeal for a more imaginative use of the slit lamp. This is underlined by a well known musical theme, which is varied freely on the piano by M-M.
Results
By using the single step mode appropriate pictures can usually be extracted from video sequences also in restless patients. The magnification of the slit lamp, width and colour (green or white) of the slit beam, but also the album function (arrangement of single photos to a pan-retinal pattern) must be adjusted to the retinal disease.
The „scanning“ of external findings (e.g. OCT, FAG, HRT) by holding „correcting minus lenses“ in front of the objective is an interesting additional option of a video slit lamp.
Conclusions
In daily ophthalmological practice documentation of nearly all retinal findings is possible with a video slit lamp – quickly, clearly and inexpensively. Thus also retinology can become part of a comprehensive „photo-ophthalmology“. |
