Abstract

SA.09.02

Visual outcome after Femto-Lasik vs. Mikrokeratom

Ulrich Giers
Augenärztliche Gemeinschaftspraxis, Detmold

Methods
When our comparison of flap thickness showed no difference between Keratom Lasik and Femto Lasik we focused on visual outcome in order to find out whether the Femto Laser gives an advantage in optical results after Lasik.
Results
Four weeks after surgery 86,67% of the Keratom patients and 84,48% of the Femto patients where within ±0,5dpt. 3 months after surgery 83,54% of the keratom Lasik cases and 80,39% of the Femto Lasik cases had a refraction of ±0,5dpt from target refraction.
Conclusions
Excimer Laser treatments of myopia with the Femtosecond Laser should enable surgeons to perform refractive surgery even of thin corneas. In our comparison of flap thicknesses this prediction failed, where as VA after Femto Lasik outperformed Keratom Lasik.
