Objective
The common therapy of malign lid tumors comprises the operative resection and if necessary plastic reconstruction which follows. The most important goal of the treatment (for the success of the surgery) is the histopathological secured R0-resection. In the long run the aesthetical result becomes more and more important for the patient and is an essential criteria for the postoperative life quality. This is why an evaluation of the patients’ life quality after operative excision and if necessary following plastic reconstruction is reasonable and goal of this study.
Methods
A questionnaire based on the NEI VFQ-25 (National Eye Institute Visual Functioning Questionnaire) was developed. The questionnaire was answered by 73 patients, who had surgery on a malign lid tumor in the years between 2005 and 2008.
Results
86,3 % of the patients evaluated their general state of health as same as one year before or better. 93,06 % of the patients were satisfied with their lifes or very satisfied.
According to their activity 83,56 % of the patients were never or seldom constricted after the surgery. 82,19 % of the patients did not have any changes in their social contacts.
83,56 % of the patients evaluated their appearance as same or only slightly different, though 16,44 % were negatively affected from it. With the aesthetic result in general 68,49 % were satisfied till very satisfied.
Conclusions
The impact of the operative surgery on the patients’ state of health as well as on their general satisfaction was marginal. According to appearance no significant constraints were evaluated. In conclusion we could not find any significant constraints of life quality after operative surgery of a malign lid tumor. |
