Abstract
SA.21.08
Infrared-imaging in outer lamellar macular hole
Karen Schaal, Eva Jakob, Stefan Dithmar
Universitäts-Augenklinik Heidelberg
Objective
Outer lamellar macular holes (OLMH) are very rare compared to inner lamellar macular holes. OLMH are idiopathic, found in optic pit associated maculopathy, in myopic macular retinoschisis progression, and they are transient in the development of full thickness macular holes. We report on infrared-imaging in OLMH
Methods
For patients with OLMH we aquired infrared-images by using infrared reflexion (IR), wavelength 820 nm, with the confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscope, Heidelberg Retina Angiograph 2, Heidelberg Engineering GmbH. Infrared-images were correlated with linear OCT-scans (Stratus-OCT, Zeiss). Images were acquired during follow-up as well as pre- and postoperatively (follow-up: up to 30 months).
Results
OLMH especially show a clear infrared signal in optic pit associated maculopathy (central retinal detachment). Correlation with linear-OCT scans shows the enhancement of the infra-red signal to be restricted to the location of OLMH. The borders of the OLMH are clearly marked. Infrared- imaging enables a view of OLMH, not subdividing the image into scans. This enables an excellent documentation of the post-operative closing sequenses of OLMH.
Conclusions
Infrared reflexion is very useful in imaging OLMH two-dimensionally, not subdividing the image into scans. Infrared imaging can complete OCT-diagnositcs, and especially in monitoring OLMH follow-up closure, IR-imaging is very useful. The knowledge about the post-operative manner of closure with adapting closing margins in OLMH can be studied in more detail with this method. |
