AbstractSA.22.07 Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome H. Burkhard Dick The Intraoperative Floppy-Iris-Syndrome (IFIS) is associated with a systemic intake of alpha1-antagonists like Tamsulosin. Incidence and clinical appearance of IFIS may vary. IFIS leads to a higher complication rate during cataract surgery, especially if not detected properly prior to surgery. Anamnesis and preoperative counseling seems tob e important in this regard. The intraoperative surgical management in case of IFIS includes pharmacological measures, the use of highly viscous ophthalmic viscosurgical devices and mechanical instruments for pupillary enlargement. Sphincterotomy and pupil stretching are ineffective. The complication rate can be reduced by employing adequate use of pharmacological and pupillary enlargement tools. The preoperative discontinuation of the therapy with alpha1-antagonists is questionable. |
