AbstractSO.02.01 New diagnostic devices in cataract and refractive surgery Martin Baumeister, Thomas Kohnen Anterior segment diagnostics are rapidly advancing and gaining importance for the planning of procedures and postoperative control examinations. New and improved imaging techniques such as rotating Scheimpflug photography and optical coherence tomography (OCT) of the anterior eye segment facilitate assessment of corneal power and LASIK flap thickness as well as exact measurement of the anterior chamber angle and monitoring of the position of phakic and pseudophakic intraocular lenses. With ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) structures covered by the iris such as ciliary muscle and ciliary sulcus can be displayed and quantified. New wavefront sensors enable measurement of anterior aberration changes with accommodation. The diagnostic devices combined with subjective testing of visual acuity and contrast sensitivity can improve the correlation between anatomic findings and functional testing and the predictability of operative procedures. |
