Objective
Clinical evaluation of a new intraocular lens (IOL) with an innovative multifocal optic design and near addition of +3.0 D.
Methods
In a multicenter study the Oculentis® LENTIS Mplus IOL was implanted in 105 eyes of 69 patients with a mean age of 68 ± 12 years. This IOL is a single piece, multifocal acrylic lens made of HydroSmart® with an aspheric posterior surface. The multifocality is achieved by implementing a distance part and a distinct near sector in the lower IOL segment, comparable to a bifocal glass. One day, one month and three months after surgery, bestcorrected distance (BCDVA) and uncorrected near (UCNVA) visual acuity was determined.
Results
The IOLs were implanted uneventful either unilateral or bilateral. Mean IOL sphere was 21.0 ± 2.01 D. Three months postoperatively, mean BCDVA was 0.18 ± 0.10 logMAR. The UCNVA was 0.10 ± 0.14 logMAR in average.
Conclusions
This new innovative multifocal IOL concept showed very good functional results as well as high patient satisfaction.
