AbstractSO.12.04 Update surgical management of retinal vein occlusion Lars-Olof Hattenbach Over the past years, surgical approaches to the management of retinal venous occlusive disease have become technically feasible. Conversely, minimally invasive procedures such as the intravitreal application of steroids or antiangiogenic drugs have largely replaced complex surgical techniques including adventitial sheathotomy or radial optic neurotomy (RON). However, there is much evidence that surgical interventions may have a beneficial effect in selected cases or in retinal vein occlusion patients unresponsive to anti-VEGF therapy. Here, available data on the surgical management of retinal vein occlusion are reviewed to determine whether current techniques are likely to improve major clinical outcomes or whether these treatment options continue to require further refinement. |
