Abstract

SO.15.08

Dynamic vessel analysis and beyond

Konstantin Kotliar, Ines M. Lanzl
Department of Ophthalmology, Technical University Munich, Germany

Objective: Dynamic vessel analysis is usually associated with the observation of the reaction of retinal vessels to a defined stimulus. The data which is generated this way leads itself to further analysis.
Methods: Mathematical analysis of unstimulated vessels may be used to describe vessel wall characteristics. Auto- and cross correlation are applied to calculate characteristic oscillations and pulse wave propagation along the vessel.
Results: Characteristic measures of vessel behavior and vessel wall conformation might be obtained by calculations from the unstimulated vessels. Using methods of signal processing pulse wave velocities of retinal arterioles are assessed.
Conclusions: Dynamic vessel analysis includes information which may lead to further understanding of the vascular status. It is also feasible to assess pulse wave velocities in retinal arterioles und thus clinically characterize the elasticity of the upstream vasculature.
